Importance of leadership during high school

Whilst the focus of Year 12 is ensuring you can achieve the best possible results, you must not overlook the importance of involving yourself in school leadership. Being in a leadership role across the school’s prefect, SRC body or sports team can provide you with many valuable skills that will support your future endeavours.

One of the primary advantages of involving yourself in school leadership is that it helps your applications for scholarship and cadetships. Professional firms and universities no longer only focus on marks, rather, they want well-rounded students that can demonstrate both academic and practical skill. Through a combination of leadership involvement and academic achievement, you can stand out from other applicants and increase your chances of being selected for such programs.

Leadership roles also place you in a collaborative environment where you work with your peers to organise events and lead exciting new initiatives. These experiences will also be the most treasured memories that you will take away from Year 12 and your high school journey. Furthermore, by taking on leadership responsibilities, the added workload will allow you to be more efficient with your time and ensure you are equally committed to your academics and extra-curricular obligations.

Take advantage of the leadership opportunities to ensure you’re better prepared for university and the workforce!
