Brain Train

Make 2018 count

Since I studied abroad for four years, I spent many long plane rides preparing for another semester or period of time back home. I found that the best way to plan for a new stage in life, whether a new school year or a holiday, is to reflect on what has just passed.

As we kick off 2018, here are some questions to help you reflect on 2017 and prepare for the new year.

Academics

  1. Which subject did you enjoy and dislike the most? Why?
  2. Did your attitude towards school work change over the course of the year? If so, how and why?
  3. How did you react to stressors or deadlines?
  4. What motivated you to work most effectively?
  5. How can make changes to your study habits or environment to study more effectively next year?

Social Life

  1. What kinds of interactions did you enjoy the most, e.g. one-on-one conversations, big group conversations, etc.? Why?
  2. Which relationships were you most grateful for this year? Why?
  3. Which relationships would you like to invest in next year? How will you invest in them?
  4. What kind of friend do you want to be next year? How can you become that kind of friend?

Extracurricular Activities

  1. Which extra curricular activity did you enjoy the most and least? Why?
  2. Did any extra curricular activity offer any leadership roles? If so, how did you respond?
  3. Which extra curricular activities do you wish to pursue next year?
  4. Which leadership roles might you seek next year? How?

  Health and Wellbeing

  1. How healthy was your diet this year?
  2. How often did you exercise this year?
  3. How can you improve your diet and/or exercise habits next year?
