Finally, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Your academic year is over, and now you have 2 months to relax. Here are some ideas on what you can do to rejuvenate and get ready for the next year:
- Get outside and play!
Take advantage of the beautiful Sydney summer weather by going to the beach with some friends or family, visiting one of Sydney’s museums, or going to an event advertised on Time Out Sydney.
- Work or volunteer part-time
This is not necessarily the time to get a kick-start on your career. If you’ve always wanted to work at a café, go ask some café managers whether you can get trained with them. If you want to be a dog walker because you love dogs, look online for dog walkers needed near you. Otherwise, try volunteering at the nearest soup kitchen. In other words, don’t just kill time by shopping or playing video games.
- Pick up a new skill or hobby (or hone the skills you already have)
Use your summer to learn a new skill, whether it’s playing a new instrument, speaking in a new language, or becoming better at drawing. The internet makes information very accessible and, best of all, free. Skills become hobbies you can enjoy for a lifetime.
- Start preparing for the new year
Your summer break is a great time to fill in the gaps from the year before and try to get ahead. If you didn’t perform quite as well as you would’ve liked in Maths this year, consider going over the material and doing a few problems a day. If you want to make sure you do well in English next year, start reading a few chapters of your assigned texts every night before bed.
Moral of the story is, relax! But that doesn’t mean you should just laze around. Treasure your time by using it wisely.
